Finished shake roof over the timber balconies of a wooded lodge home

Specialty · Cedar

A roof that sets the
house apart.

Cedar shake roofs are a great-looking and long-lasting alternative to traditional shingles. Tough, unique, and worth doing right the one time it goes on.

What it is

A natural roof with a look you cannot fake.

Cedar shake is a distinctive roofing style that distinguishes a home from everything else on the street. It is a tough, unique roof. It also asks for a crew that knows the material, because a cedar roof lasts a long time but it does not last forever, and the difference between thirty years and fifteen is in the install and the upkeep. When it comes to roofing, cedar shakes reward the crew that knows the material and punish the crew that does not.

Material

It is a natural product, and it behaves like one.

Cedar moves with the weather. Laid correctly, with the right spacing, stainless fasteners, and an interlayment or breathable felt with Cedar Breather underneath, it sheds water for decades. Laid wrong, it traps moisture and rots from underneath.

Honesty

We will tell you if it is a repair, not a replacement.

A cedar roof rarely fails all at once. A professional inspection tells you whether you are looking at a section of replacement shakes or a full tear-off. We climb it before we quote it.

Detail

Copper, not caulk, at the vulnerable joints.

Valleys, chimneys, and sidewalls are where a cedar roof leaks first. We flash them in copper so the metal outlives the wood and you are not back up there in five years.

The composite alternative

When you want the cedar look without the upkeep, we install DaVinci.

DaVinci Roofscapes Shake

Manufacturer

The hand-split look, engineered to never rot, curl, or burn.

DaVinci molds its composite shake from a virgin-resin polymer with UV and thermal stabilizers and a fire retardant built in, casting the deep grooves and dramatic shadow lines of hand-split cedar without the maintenance that comes with the real thing. It does not crack, curl, rot, or feed insects, and the color is engineered to hold for decades rather than silver out in a few seasons. It comes in Single-Width, Select, and Multi-Width profiles, so the roof can read tidy and uniform or rough-hewn and staggered. Class 4 impact and Class A fire ratings make it the cedar look that often earns an insurance discount in a hail-and-storm market like ours.

Have the cedar looked at before another winter.

A project consultant walks the roof and tells you straight: repair the section or plan the replacement. The inspection is free and the report comes with photos.
