Finished shake roof over the timber balconies of a wooded lodge home
Back to projects

Chesterfield, MO

The lodge on Trotting Trail, finished in Brava Woodshake with copper valleys.

A full tear-off of the old woodshake roof and a complete rebuild over a timber lodge tucked deep in the trees. The crew stripped the roof down to the deck, repaired what time and weather had taken, and rebuilt the entire system with Brava Woodshake installed in a staggered pattern for depth, shadow, and movement. Copper valleys, copper chimney accessories, and copper detail work tie the whole roofline together, bright metal against warm shake, built to patina into the timber and stone over time.

Chesterfield, MO · Brava Woodshake · copper valleys

The lodge on Trotting Trail sits deep in the trees, a timber home with balconies stacked under wide eaves and a stone chimney rising through the roofline. We tore off the old woodshake, stripped the roof down to the deck, and rebuilt the entire system so the lodge never sat open to the weather.

The new roof is Brava Woodshake, installed in a staggered pattern for depth, shadow, and movement. Copper valleys, copper chimney accessories, and copper detail work tie the whole roofline together. Bright metal against warm shake, built to patina into the timber and stone over time.

How the work moved

The work, in five acts.

Act 01

Walk the roof.

The inspection found aging woodshake, worn felt, and a few deck spots softened under old leaks. Chimney flashing was past its life, and the valleys needed full replacement.

Act 02

Strip it clean.

Full tear-off down to the deck. Damaged decking was replaced, and the entire roof was dried in behind the crew so the lodge never sat open.

Act 03

Run the shake.

Brava Woodshake installed in a staggered pattern for depth and movement. Courses were woven clean, and the field tied into copper valleys and wide eaves.

Act 04

Work the stone.

Copper saddle and counterflashing at the chimney. Shake hand-cut and fit tight to the stone. Every copper joint soldered clean.

Act 05

Final walk.

Full inspection of valleys, chimney, stagger pattern, and eaves. Clean lines, tight copper, and a roof that looks built with the home.
